Times Picayune: Sen. Mary Landrieu hailed at milestone in effort to help small businesses
By Jonathan Tilove, 9/14/10
The Times Picayune reported on the U.S. Chamber’s aggressive support for an amendment to the Small Business Jobs Act that would repeal provision 1099 reporting requirements on small businesses. The amendment failed to pass but according to Tilove,“Bringing the 1099 grievance to bear on the small-business bill was seen by some Democrats as a Republican stalling tactic, and it may have succeeded in giving the Chamber reason, or cover, to back away from a bill that has come to take on a highly partisan edge in the run-up to the mid-term elections.”
Key Quote by Senator Mary Landreiu, (D-LA), Sponsor of the Small Business Jobs Act: “"We have a year and a half to fix 1099; we have no more time to help small businesses," said Landrieu, acknowledging, "Chamber of Commerce, I know you're watching, I've heard you."
