Two state civic groups in Maryland are asking their state chamber to use its leverage to demand accountabilty from the U.S. Chamber.
Most state chambers of commerce, including the Maryland Chamber, pay dues to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and are considered "members" of the national Chamber.
Maryland Public Interest Research Group and the League of Women Voters of Maryland have written a letter to the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, asking it to lobby the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to disclose whether it is subsidizing election spending on ads and other political activities with foreign funds, which would be against federal law.
Maryland Chamber president Kathleen Snyder said the thinks "the U.S. Chamber has heard from its membership on this."
